For the half term contextual studies work we were told to create a book on pretty much whatever we wanted. I chose to create a book on identity by mixing portrait photography (photos by Charlie Carter Photography) of famous face poeple recognise with simple graphics by blocking out their face with a simple circle.

Graphic Design Workshop 1
For this workshop we were sent out for a few hour to cut random letters we liked that we found out of card without drawing the letter first. We then had to do as many things as we could with those letter. i also chose to keep triangle cut outs from the letters the create more images. I used photocopiers to layer up the images and to create the patterns. Here is what i created:

Portrait book
This homework was set after using only tonal implement in the drawing workshop. we were told to go home and create around 10 images that related to the workshop. I chose to elaborate on this and thought how do we see tone. I then came to realise we see tone through our eyes so if i was to remove the eyes and the face it would remove the tone. I chose to use famous portrait painting for this.
Here you can see first i blurred out there face for the idea that when you squint you see tone better. by squinting at the blur u are able to make out the face through the tones. I then for the second image just used a simple black box to block out there eyes. I finished by pacing the manipulated heads over the original as pull back as seen below.

Summer Project
For this project, the breif was to visualize a form of text.
in this case i went for a poem called 'Longing' by D.L.Whited:
She rises up from restless sleep
To greet another day
She wonders if he thought of her
As he started on his way
The first thing on her mind was him
And her love swells like a tide
She always starts her morning out
Wishing he were at her side
She looks up with saddened eyes
To catch a lonely stare
The lost girl in the mirror sighs
And brushes back her hair
For just a brief few moments
She smiles a secret smile
Her finger reaches out to trace
I love you, on the tile
Memories so bitter sweet
Go rushing through her head
Thoughts of how he held her close
As they shared the same soft bed
Music, wine, and candlelight
Making love at break of day
Then the sadness of A brave goodbye
As she slowly walked away
She knew when it all started
Some days would feel this blue
Real love is worth the price you pay
And she knows this one is true
So she pulls herself together
As she whispers out his name
Not knowing many miles away
He's whispering the same.
To begin with i was going to take the same photo on three different aged cameras and have each as a set. In the end i just used a Digital and a film then chose the best out of all the images and retouched the colour levels, contrast and grain. I wanted to show how they changed when they were togther in the poem with more than just expressions and actions in the photos. i used photoshop to create a new skin manipulation that would cover there skin . i then applied it to the images of them togther to show the difference. an example is of the girl (Ruth) walking through the gate leaving the boy (Max), inwhich the skin is blowing away.
In the end i chose these images: (in order)
